Oct. 24, 2008 GOT THIS IN A EMAIL
From a little city born girl living on a small farm....
Matt. 18:4-5 'Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me.'
Johnny's Mother looked out the window and noticed
him 'playing church' with their cat. He had the cat sitting quietly and he was preaching to it. She smiled and went about her work.
A while later she heard loud meowing and hissing and ran backto the open window to see Johnny baptizing the cat in a tub of water. She called out, 'Johnny, stop that! The cat is afraid of water!'
Johnny looked up at her and said, 'He should have thought about that before he joined my church.'

Oct. 23, 2008 Uncovering of 4 cats
From a little city born girl living on a small farm.........
Uncovering of 4 cats.
Order: Carnivora
Family: Felidae
Genus and Species: Acinonyx jubatus
Physical Description: Built more like greyhounds than typical cats, cheetahs are adapted for brief but intense bursts of speed. They have wiry bodies and small heads. Their coats are golden or yellowish, embellished with many small black spots, and their tails are long with a few black bands and sometimes a white tip. Black stripes run from their eyes down to the corners of their mouths. This information is brought to you by:
Size: Cheetahs grow to between three and a half and four and a half feet long, not including their 30-inch tails. They weigh between 75 and 145 pounds and stand two to three feet tall at the shoulder. Males tend to be a bit more robust and weigh about ten pounds more than females.
Geographic Distribution: Cheetahs live in small, isolated populations mostly in sub-Saharan Africa. They are very rare in southern Algeria and northern Niger, and range from Senegal east to Somalia and south to northern South Africa. A few have been reported from Iran. However, many of their strongholds are in eastern and southern African parks.
Status: The cheetah is listed as vulnerable on the World Conservation Union's (IUCN's) Red List of Threatened Animals.
Habitat: Savannas, both open and more densely vegetated, give cheetahs the open areas they need for quick stalks and chases. They are not found in forest areas or wetlands.
Natural Diet: Cheetahs eat primarily hoofed mammals weighing less than 90 pounds, including gazelles and young wildebeest. They will also eat smaller game such as hares, warthogs, and birds.
National Zoo Diet: The Zoo's cheetahs eat ground horse meat and sometimes beef, rabbits, and chicks.
Reproduction: Cheetahs can breed at any time of year but tend to copulate in the dry season, with cubs being born at the onset of the wet season. Females reach breeding age by 21 or 22 months of age. Males live in small permanent groups called coalitions, which are usually made up of brothers. Males are drawn to females in heat, but only one male in a coalition usually mates with the selected female. On average, three cubs are born about three months after mating takes place. Until five or six weeks old, the cubs remain hidden; if she needs to move, the mother carries them from place to place. After five or six weeks, cubs follow their mothers and share her kills. Cheetah cubs wean at about three months old.
Life Span: In zoos, cheetahs may live up to 17 years; in the wild, they may live eight to ten years.
Behavior: Female cheetahs live alone, except when raising cubs. They rarely associate with other cheetahs, except when ready to mate. Males live in small permanent groups called coalitions, which are usually made up of two to four brothers. To avoid lions and leopards, cheetahs usually hunt in the middle of the day. Cheetahs stalk their prey, approaching to within about 50 feet before dashing out from cover and sprinting at the targeted animals. Cheetahs grab their victims' throats and suffocate their quarry within a few minutes. After securing their meal, they may drag it to nearby cover. Despite their best efforts to hide their catches, their kills are often stolen by larger predators and picked at by hordes of vultures. Lions and hyenas also eat cheetah cubs; lions and leopards also kill adults.
Past/Present/Future: Once widespread across arid Africa, into the Middle East and east to India, the cheetah has suffered dramatic declines over the last century. It now lives in Africa, and a few may survive in Iran. Hunted for their spotted coats and because they sometimes attack livestock, they disappeared from many areas. More recently, widespread habitat destruction has fragmented cheetah habitats, isolating many populations. In many areas, the cheetah's prey has been overhunted by people. Scientists have also found that many cheetahs suffer from genetic defects due to inbreeding, possibly the result of a population bottleneck—a sharp decline—that occurred perhaps as far back as 10,000 years ago. Among other things, inbreeding could raise cub mortality, lower cheetahs' resistance to disease, and cause infertility. An estimated 8,000 to 10,000 wild cheetahs survive. Cheetah strongholds, where possible, must be connected to allow genetic interchange if this species is to survive. Also, conflict between cheetahs and humans needs to be moderated. For example, in Namibia, ranchers may legally shoot cheetahs that prey on livestock.
Meerkats
Scientific name: Suricata suricattaRange: South African savannah
Habitat: rocky grasslands, intense heat, little rain
Status: Not threatened
Diet in the wild: various insects including poisonous scorpions, grubs, geckos, small rodents, snakes, and various roots and fruits
Diet in the zoo: cat chow and crickets
Location in the zoo:
Physical description: weight of about 2 pounds, 12 inches tall, stiff, black-tipped tail that aids in balance, gray or tan fur with dark stripes across back, long claws on front paws for digging and climbing, pointed snout and small black eyes surrounded by patches of black fur.
Meerkats form groups in order to survive. Being such small animals, they are very susceptible to larger predators. However, when they are part of a larger group, there is a division of labor, a sharing of resources, and greater strength in numbers.
Meerkats perform specific roles, hence the division of labor. The members of the group specialize in one of these specific roles, such as guard duty, babysitting the young, foraging, and sharing food. Even though each member has his or her own job, the meerkats are relieved of their duties by others so that they can eat. Each takes a turn at babysitting and guard duty for short periods of time. These duties are exhausting, and the willingness to share the labor displays the cohesion of the group.
As seen by their sleeping arrangements, the meerkats are a closely knit group. This closeness is evident in the daytime as well. During the day, the meerkats forage for food out in the open savannah. This could be dangerous, but each member of the group takes a turn at guard duty by pausing briefly to stand erect and scan the skies for pedators. At other times, one of the meerkats who has specialized in guard duty will perch as high as 12 feet on a branch to watch the skies. His constant peeping lets the group know that the skies are clear. When one guard is relieved by the other, he is very hungry. This is due to the fact that meerkats are used to eating every few minutes. At each step they paw and sniff the ground until they smell food. They then begin a digging frenzy, sending the sand flying, until they capture the prey. They can move their own weight in sand in a matter of seconds, which is important when their dinner is running away.
The sand also flies when the meerkats use their specialized claws to dig burrows. These burrows are extensive passages that can cover many underground miles. They are used for sleeping, escaping from predators and the hot sun, and raising their kits to maturity.
The meerkats live in groups instead of singly. This provides a better chance for survival due to the greater protection of the group, a sharing of resources, and a division of labor. One particular job a meerkat can do is to teach the young how to hunt. This is accomplished by the meerkat running around the kits with a tasty insect in her mouth and trying to get the kits to take it away from her.
Another behavioral adaptation related to group survival is banding together to form what appears to be a giant, hissing animal, as was mentioned previously. This is achieved by grouping tightly together, fluffing up their fur, and surging forward with their teeth bared and tails held high. Research biologist David W. Macdonald of Oxford University reported seeing this behavior. The meerkats drove off a much larger jackal and a bat-eared fox who had invaded their territory in this manner.
When the meerkats are not busy eating, playing, and warming themselves in the sun, they enjoy watching the zoo patrons. They are very curious and will focus on one particular person, who they will seem to "study".
Mating
After a gestation period of approximately 11 weeks, a litter of 3-5 kits is born. They are without hair, helpless, and blind. However, they mature to the point of being weaned within only a month to a month and a halt. At about this same time, they emerge from their den and begin to learn how to capture food. This is done under the watchful eye of the adult babysitter.
They are fully grown at 6 months of age, and have a general life expectancy of about 10 years.
Comments about the meerkats at the Fort Worth Zoo: The zoo trades meerkats from time to time so that they can mate with others outside of their own family. This is done to prevent too much inter-breeding.
In addition, the zoo feeds the meerkats cat chow and crickets. Although very different from their diet in the wild, this type of diet seems to meet their needs.

Leopards
Physical Characteristics
The most secretive and elusive of the large carnivores, the leopard is also the shrewdest. Pound for pound, it is the strongest climber of the large cats and capable of killing prey larger than itself.
Leopards come in a wide variety of coat colors, from a light buff or tawny in warmer, dryer areas to a dark shade in deep forests. The spots, or rosettes, are circular in East African leopards but square in southern African leopards.
Habitat
Dense bush in rocky surroundings and riverine forest are their favorite habitats, but leopards adapt to many places in both warm and cold climates. Their adaptability, in fact, has helped them survive the loss of habitat to increasing human settlement. Leopards are primarily nocturnal, usually resting during the daytime in trees or thick bush. The spotted coat provides almost perfect camouflage.
Behavior
Leopards are solitary creatures and predominately nocturnal. Each individual has a home range that overlaps with its neighbors; the male's range is much larger and generally overlaps with those of several females. Leopards continually move about their territory, seldom staying in an area for more than two or three days at a time. Ranges are marked with urine and claw marks and leopards announce their presence to other leopards with a rasping cough. Leopards also growl, roar and purr.
A litter includes two or three cubs, whose coats appear to be smoky gray as the rosettes are not yet clearly delineated. The female abandons her nomadic wandering until the cubs are large enough to accompany her. She keeps them hidden for about the first 8 weeks, giving them meat when they are 6 or 7 weeks old and suckling them for 3 months or longer.
Diet
The most elusive of the large carnivores, the leopard is a cunning, stealthy hunter, its prey ranges from strong-scented carrion, fish, reptiles and birds to mammals such as rodents, hares, hyraxes, warthogs, antelopes, monkeys and baboons. Both lions and hyenas have been known to take away a leopard's kill. To prevent this, leopards store their larger kills in trees where they can feed on them in relative safety.
Predators and Threats
The most widespread of the felines, leopards occur in regions across both Africa and Asia. Indeed, their adaptability to both warm and cold climates has helped them survive the loss of habitat caused by increasing human settlement. However, leopards have long been preyed upon by man. Their soft, beautiful fur has been used for clothing. The tail, claws and whiskers of the leopard are popular as fetishes. In some areas farmers try to exterminate them, while in others leopards are considered symbols of wisdom.
Did You Know?
The elegant, powerfully built leopard has a long body, relatively short legs and a broad head. Its tawny coat is covered with dark, irregular circles called "rosettes."
Both lions and hyenas will take away a leopard's kill if they can. To prevent this leopards store their larger kills in trees where they can feed on them in relative safety.

leopards look a lot alike, there are ways to tell them apart. Jaguars are stockier and heavier, with shorter, thicker tails. They have dark spots on their backs, called rosettes, with an irregular broken border and often a spot in the center. Leopards (from Africa and Asia) also have dark rosettes on a tawny coat, but if you look closely at each rosette, you’ll see that there is no spot inside, and the rosette edge is unbroken. lions, tigers, and leopards. These are the only big cats that can roar. They roar to scare off other animals and defend their territory. melanistic, coloration. Usually jaguars that are found in darker rain forest areas are black. So, are they black panthers? No, there is no such animal! “Panther” is just an old general term that comes from the Panthera animal grouping name, and is sometimes used to describe leopards, jaguars, and pumas.stalk and ambush their ground-dwelling prey at night, instead of chasing it like cheetahs and lions do. They can run pretty quickly, but this is not an important skill for them. Their large jaw muscles allow them to kill their prey by piercing the skull with their sharp teeth. This allows them to eat spectacled caimans and hard-shelled reptiles like turtles and tortoises. Researchers have counted over 85 species in the jaguar diet, including peccaries, deer, tapirs, cattle, and capybaras. At the San Diego Zoo, the large cats are fed carnivore diet, large bones, and an occasional thawed rabbit.adapted for night hunting. One key element is their eyeshine, caused by a mirror-like structure called the tapetum lucidum. The tapetum lucidum in the back of their eye reflects light into the retina, nearly doubling their ability to see. If you have a pet cat or dog, you can see this eyeshine at night. Jaguars see less detail and color in daylight but have better vision at night in low light. predators in their habitat, so the adult cats don't have much to fear other than humans. The coats of jaguars have always been important to people who share their habitat. Unfortunately the demand for jaguar skins spread to the outside world. Commercial fur hunting, especially in the 1960s, took a terrible toll on jaguars. CITES outlaws the sale of jaguar skins internationally. Unfortunately, jaguar coats are still illegally bought and sold in countries where jaguars live.livestock. Ranchers often respond by trapping and poisoning them. Other threats to jaguars involve deforestation due to logging, mining, and farming, which breaks up their habitat into fragments, leaving less food and fewer mates.North America, Central America, and South America
Habitat: rain forests, swampy areas, grasslands, woodlands, dry forests, and even desertshttp://www.awf.org/content/wildlife/detail/leopardhttp://www.whozoo.org/students/kartho/meerkat3.htm and Maturation: The meerkats become sexually mature at 12 months of age. A particular male and female usually take on the responsibility of most of the breeding. Mating is a little rough. The male pursues the female and then latches on to her neck, after which mating takes place. Personal observations: When the Meerkat Mounds exhibit first opened up in 1997, there were many babies among the population. The babies are extremely small and cute. They are also watched very closely by the adult meerkats. Even in the somewhat safe environment of the zoo, the adults are constantly raising up on their hind legs to keep watch for predators. However, now that the babies are grown, the meerkats seem to be more relaxed. There is one definite guard, and the rest of the group seems relatively unconcerned with the zoo patrons. They eat, play, and sun themselves without a worry. Special anatomical, physiological or behavioral adaptations: Meerkats have developed an immunity to scorpion stings that can paralyze a grown man or kill a small child. They also have black patches of fur around their eyes that function as a sort of built in pair of sunglasses. Although meerkats are very social within their own group, they are very intent upon driving away intruders. They will either group together when threatened to form what appears to be a giant, hissing animal, or they will fiercely drive another group of meerkats out of their territory. This second behavior is done by performing a type off "war dance" that consists of each meerkat jumping higher and higher in the air and jeering loudly. They progressively move forward, then suddenly stop and start vigorously pawing the ground. This action causes what looks like smoke signals to rise into the air. The war dance and smoke signals are the meerkat's way of intimidating outsiders by making themselves appear stronger and more numerous. The victorous group will then mark the losing group's territory with their waste.Meerkat Mounds General information: Meerkats are small mammals who are most closely related to the mongooses. They are colonial animals, so they are very social within their own group. Behaviors that make this evident are that they will share food, and groom, snuggle and lick each other often, as well as before settling down to sleep in a large pile similar to canine puppies. KIDS IN CHURCH
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3-year-old Reese :
'Our Father, Who does art in heaven,
Harold is His name.
Amen.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A little boy was overheard praying:
'Lord, if you can't make me a better boy, don't worry about it.
I'm having a real good time like I am.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the christening of his baby brother in church,
Jason sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the car.
His father asked him three times what was wrong.
Finally, the boy replied,
'That preacher said he wanted us brought up in a Christian home,
and I wanted to stay with you guys.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One particular four-year-old prayed,
'And forgive us our trash baskets
as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Sunday school teacher asked her children as they
were on the way to church service,
'And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?'
One bright little girl replied,
'Because people are sleeping.'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin 5, and Ryan 3.
The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake.
Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson.
'If Jesus were sitting here, He would say,
'Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.'
Kevin turned to his younger brother and said,
'Ryan, you be Jesus!'
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A father was at the beach with his children
when the four-year-old son ran up to him,
grabbed his hand, and led him to the shore
where a seagull lay dead in the sand.
'Daddy, what happened to him?' the son asked.
'He died and went to Heaven,' the Dad replied.
The boy thought a moment and then said,
'Did God throw him back down?'
|
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A wife invited some people to dinner.
At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said,
'Would you like to say the blessing?'
'I wouldn't know what to say,' the girl replied.
'Just say what you hear Mommy say,' the wife answered.
The daughter bowed her head and said,
'Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?'

Hi, I am here to talk about every thing I've been up to lately.
Last night I went to my first 4-H meeting. I got a 4-H shirt which is so cool. They also picked the queen which was so unfair since this is only my second year, I only do dog and the queen has to do and go to so much stuff, and my Mom said no, end of story.
I have a new job(if I have already told you sorry if you have to read it again). I help clean and feed all of my grandmas dogs- not just the puppy(in which we only have one more of). I only et paid on the days I work. RIght now I am saving up my money for a laptop.
Last week my mom lost her voice so she didn't read to us so we had less school but this week we have a little more, but thats ok as long as my Mom is feeling good so I'm ok!
I have this new hair style I like a hole lot. I brush my hair out strait and get all of the tangles out and then my Mom twist it up and makes it face up. Then she puts a clip to hold it place, it looks so good.
Have you ever seen Transformers the movie? My Dad got it on DVD and I love it so much, if that was the only movie on earth I would watch it nonstop. If you asked me what my favorite movies the first thing I would say would be "Transformers the movie".
Well, thats all for now, bye!!!

Nov. 29, 2007 Moving my great-Grandma&Grandpa "J", toa och!
Well, again, first on the list is "moving my Great-Grandma&Grandpa"J"". When I say moving, mean the moving that I did, house to house! It was fine I guess, I like there new house, it has a big kitchen plus a storm cellar, and on top of all that, NO STAIRS! Both of them have nee surgery and even to get into there old house you have to clime stairs. There was a up stairs to! So they had to clime about ten stair to get to there offices and my Grandma's sewing room witch she probably uses every day, it's a pain for me, a ten year old to go up and down those stairs! I this they will do very good in that house!
Now for "tao ouch". Well, I had ingrown tao nail. I really hurt but we didn't do any thing about it for two days and then my little sister just tapped it with her foot and I start screaming. My mom told right then to go get tweasers and tao nail clippers so she could pull it out. At first I held back saying it alright and asking if my grandma could do It. But pretty soon I got over ruled and I got them. I lay on the couch and my mom started at it. I screamed so loud my grandma probbably heard me. My mom was soon done and it turns out it was infected so if it would have been there any longer it would have hurt worse then my mom pull it out!
Well, thats all for know, plz comment on my blog by!

Sep. 13, 2007 Brother problums
I have two brothers and one sister. Counting only children there are two boy and two girls inclueding me. Out of it all I rule the pack. I'm not the oldest or smartest but I am the one who thinks of all the plans and can hide and keep quiet worth anything. I say I'm getting to old for the job now that I am 10, but I can handle it until my little sister can take over. Don't worry about me and two boys, I can put them strait
My brother wants Me to buy his game boy so he can get a DS. He is giving it to me cheap so I might buy it. The reason so me and my brother thank it got stolen. It is very hard but I might be come to a dissuasion.
My brother is having his birthday party with two of his friends Starting tomorrow. I think I might spy on him so he better keep looking around listening for feet. Who said I cant have jsut as much fun as him this weekend? |

Sep. 6, 2007 Shadow, Buba and all the others!

Hi, this is me and my grandma beljun malunwa pup named which I named Shadow. On her back she has a skunk stip, She is the smallest and darkest of the bach. She is getting to look to much like the other so I am probably going to pant her nails next time I go to my grandmas. That picture was taken a week ago so now her eye and ears are opening! It is so exiting, oh, and since she can not see really good she uses her nose to get around. Now I am going to tell you about her mom, Harly. She is my grandmas dog, she is really pretty and smooth fured. She has to be put up when we come over becuase she is realy mean but she is a good mom. The reason shes mean is, she was kicked when she was a pup so my grandma kept her. My grandpa is going to keep one of this batch for his own dog. I hope he chooses Shadow.
PS: I will be posting more pics of Shadow, Buba and all the other pups soon so keep watch! Plz leave a jewl on my blog! |
